CELTA – Certificate in Teaching English Language to Adults
The CELTA is an intensive, initial TEFL qualification designed for people with little or no previous English language teaching experience or training.
Certified by Cambridge English Language Assessment, it is the most widely-recognised EFL qualification worldwide.
The course is very practical, providing the opportunity to teach real language learners from week one.
CELTA is regulated by Ofqual at level 5 on the Qualifications and Credit Framework.

Am I guaranteed to be accepted on the course?
There is a pre-course interview before you are accepted on to the course.
Do I need to have any training or qualifications to be accepted on the course?
You will need to have at least a standard of education equivalent to that required for entry into higher education.
Is there any pre-course preparation I should do before starting the course?
As preparation for the course and pre-course tasks candidates should buy the following books:
- Harmer, Jeremy 2015 (5th Edition), The Practice of English Language Teaching, Longman
- Aitken, Rosemary 2002, Teaching Tenses
Will I be teaching real students during the course?
Yes, you will be required to complete 6 hours of teaching practice with real learners at two different levels.
Will I have to sit an exam at the end of the course?
The course is assessment based so there is no exam to sit.
When will I know if I have passed the course?
Certificates for pass students and results letters for fail candidates will be sent to us within 8 weeks of receipt of the Main Course Tutor and the assessor’s recommended results.
